On Thursday actor Christian Bale presented blind forced abortion opponent Chen Guangcheng with an award at the annual gala of Human Rights First. In December 2011, while Chen was still in China under house arrest, Bale attempted to visit Chen but was roughed up by thugs, who prevented him from visiting Chen's village. Bale said at that time, "What I really wanted to do was shake the man's hand and say 'thank you,' and tell him what an inspiration he is."

Mormons are family oriented, clean-cut and prominent in political and economic circles, fervent in their faith and all-around nice folks. In so many ways one could erroneously assume that Mormons represent just one more facet of fervent evangelical Christianity.
Many would like to think that theological differences between Mormons and evangelical Christians aren't enough to have any real significance. Sadly, they are badly mistaken. In this second section, Paul discusses how we should interact with others over issues of freedom. His counsel is: Be willing to relinquish your “rights” for the sake of your brothers and sisters. In 10:23, Paul shares an important principle: Edification is more important than our personal gratification. Paul writes, “All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify.” <more...> A California legal group says a school district may be violating the First Amendment in teaching children yoga related to Hinduism and Eastern mysticism.
Parents of children attending Encinitas Union School District say schools are teaching their children Eastern mysticism during physical education. Parents are concerned that the school district is using taxpayer funds to promote Ashtana yoga and Hinduism. The parents expressed their concern during a school board meeting. Drops of dried blood lead like bread crumbs up three flights of stairs to a shrapnel-shredded apartment, perhaps 40 yards from the site of a car bombing that killed Lebanon's top intelligence chief Oct. 19 -- and threatened to destroy the country's shaky stability.
"If we didn't stop him, he'd give away all the money he has," Stacey Bonham said of her 11-year-old son, Baylor. And that would be a significant amount, since Baylor deposited $106,000 in his bank account after showing his prize steer, Stripe. The young member of First Baptist Church in Newcastle, Okla., is tithing on that money to his church. To help equip adoptive families deal with the challenges specific to raising adopted children, All God's Children International is presenting a free training seminar with Patty Jewell, LCSW, and founder of the Center for Family Connection. Through the presentation on "Purposeful Parenting in Adoption," Jewell will explore the impact deficiencies in early childhood care can have on a child's ability to attach, advances in neuroscience as it relates to parenting, how to function as a transracial family, as well as many other topics.
Over the last 2 years serving in this ministry I have had the honor to meet and witness the lives of many spiritual people. People who have endured hardship and come out of the fires of tribulation stronger and closer to God than when they began. Jim Kane I count as one of the strongest of these. Today marks the one year anniversary of Jim's death. Jim was not only a man of great spiritual strength and moral fortitude, but also a man who demonstrated that no matter the mistakes or problems in your past, God's grace covers ALL sin.
Below I have included a copy of the original memorial I printed in issue #11 of LHF Magazine. Jim Kane was and shall always be a beloved and remembered: husband, friend, sponsor, son, grandfather and my Dad. “Many talk much, and indeed well, of what Christ has done for us: but how little is spoken of what he is to do in us! and yet all that he has done for us is in reference to what he is to do in us.” This eminent divine and oriental scholar was born in the year 1760 or 1762, in the little village of Moybeg, county of Londonderry. His father belonged to a family which at one time possessed considerable property in Antrim, and his mother, who was of Scotch descent, is described as a woman of excellent character, who early taught her children the importance of religion. At the time of Adam's birth, however, the financial affairs of the family were far from prosperous. <more...> |
