On Path to Sainthood, Catholic Priest will Receive Medal of Honor

He was a soldier. He was a war hero. He was a priest. His Cause for Canonization is being considered by the Vatican. And now Fr. Emil Kapaun will receive the Medal of Honor from the President of the United States.

Fr. Emil's heroic story will be told in the soon-to-be-released book "The Miracle of Father Kapaun," published by Ignatius Press. One of the most remarkable aspects of his story surrounds the atypical movement of support for both his sainthood cause and his Medal of Honor award. The witnesses to both his sanctity and his bravery have come from non-Catholics, men of Jewish faith, Muslim faith and Protestant tradition, who served with Fr. Kapaun in battle or in the brutality of conditions where he drew his last breath -- a prisoner of war camp.

London Cop Supports Charismatic Mission

He calls himself “the fan who joined the band.” Chief Superintendent John Sutherland is championing a charismatic mission to some of London’s toughest neighborhoods.

A longtime admirer of the Eden Network, a group of youth ministries operated by the Message Trust in Manchester, Sutherland has recently become chairman of this social action organization, which appoints youth and community workers to live and work in deprived housing projects.

Canadians Unite Against Legalized Euthanasia

Doctors in Canada have launched a drive against an effort in Quebec to legalize euthanasia, despite a national law against it.

Dr. Catherine Ferrier of the Physicians' Alliance for Total Refusal of Euthanasia, a group of 317 doctors, says the practice will be legalized this spring unless there is sufficient opposition. The bill calls for improved end-of-life care and legalized euthanasia -- doctors killing patients.

IRD: Don't Let the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Silence Free Speech

The largest Islamic body in the world is pushing ahead with a planned event "geared towards combating discrimination and intolerance on religious grounds." But while the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is heralding an upcoming June meeting of "the Istanbul Process" in Geneva, free speech advocates are crying foul.

North Korea's 'Hatred of Christians' Puts 70,000 Believers in Prison

Persecution of Christians in North Korea shows no sign of abating under the country's new leader, Kim Jong-Un, according to a report by the worldwide ministry Open Doors.

"The fanatical regime, which rules the destitute country of 24 million people with a proverbial iron fist, has a special hatred for Christians," Jerry Dykstra of the California-based Open Doors USA noted. "North Korea is in a league of its own when it comes to persecution of Christians."

Pastor Irani Still in Need of Medical Assistance

Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) has learned that Pastor Benham Irani, currently held in Ghezal Hesar prison in Iran, is now unable to walk and that medical assistance continues to be withheld despite his deteriorating health.

Pastor Irani has been losing weight for several months and has been unable to walk for the last week due to acute back pain. The pastor has trouble with his vision and last year suffered severe bleeding due to stomach ulcers and complications with his colon, which caused him to lose consciousness at one point. He was given tablets to stop the bleeding, but was denied further medical attention.
