Wrath is violent anger, an angry act, rage. Six people died and many others were injured when unknown gunmen attacked Aduwan Gida Village in the Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA) of Southern Kaduna during the evening of February 23rd. The attack occurred at around 10pm, as villagers gathered to mourn the death of an elderly member of the community. Armed assailants are reported to have fired indiscriminately for around ten minutes, and fatalities are said to include a nursing mother and her six-month-old baby. The injured are being treated in hospitals in Kaduna and Plateau States. Recently, the persecution of churches in Heilongjiang and Shandong has again come with a force, breaking up the brief quiet after the Chinese New Year. In this persecution, Christian gatherings were raided, attendees harassed, a pastor was beaten, and missionaries were detained.
Presbyterian Federation of Beijing has made an urgent appeal for prayers for the persecuted church in Heilongjiang and for assistance in hiring lawyers to intervene according to law. Prominent Christian Lawyer Li Fangping has agreed to represent the church in this case. Hundreds, if not thousands of atheists have become "followers" on Ray Comfort's Facebook page, and he says that he needs help to reach them. There has been an influx of 80,000 followers in the last two months, and according to Facebook statistics the page has a "weekly total reach" of over a million people. Comfort said, "I have looked at a number of other Facebook pages, and have seen an average of 30-40 comments from followers, however, it is not uncommon to get over 1,000 comments on one post on my page (one had over 1900 comments). With six posts each day we can't possibly answer all their questions, and so I'm asking Christians to come and help--because this is a very real battle for a generation." An annual study of box office figures among major movies produced by Hollywood reveals that moviegoers prefer movies with Christian, redemptive values. According to the 2013 Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry by the Christian Film & Television Commission, an advocacy group in Hollywood, movies with very strong Christian, redemptive worldviews reflecting traditional moral values earned four times as much money on average as movies with very strong non-Christian, anti-Christian or mixed worldviews: $90.78 million versus $20.22 million. The Academy Award-nominated film "Les Miserables" has garnered praise as an overarching parable contrasting the Bible's Old Testament, where God's law and wrath is in focus, and the New Testament, where God's love and grace is evident. From Genesis to Revelation, however, the Bible conveys a remarkably uniform picture of the God of justice and love revealed throughout the Bible. I have been thinking a lot about the family unit lately. Maybe it is all of the parenting training I am getting, or maybe it is because I was on a Marriage retreat last weekend, or maybe it is because I was at a training session on loving your spouse and children in a positive way. I think all three of these have had a part to play in my thoughts on family. Pornography is the "pink elephant in the pew" -- the embarrassing, big subject no one wants to talk about -- and that silence is feeding a "bubonic plague" harming churches, pastor Jay Dennis told state Baptist convention executive directors and editors gathered in Oklahoma City. "Our enemy has found the perfect tool to deliver temptation to men -- men who love God, men who love their wives, love their children and love their churches," Dennis, pastor of First Baptist Church at the Mall in Lakeland, Fla., said Feb. 14. "Yet their involvement in looking at pornography has virtually duct-taped their mouths closed and taken them out of spiritual leadership in the home and in the church." |
