Recently the scientists at CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics) ignited fireworks around the world with the announcement of the discovery of the Higgs boson, a.k.a., the God Particle. Congratulations are in order for Professor Peter Higgs and the thousands of scientist around the world who labored to detect the illusive subatomic particle. Helen Gurley Brown, who died last week at the age of 90, has been hailed by many as a role model for modern women, as she pioneered the now-common view that the way to women’s empowerment was through sexual license. In 1962, at the age of 40, Brown wrote Sex and the Single Girl. In this sadly influential book, Brown told women that they could have it all - love, sex and money. President Asif Ali Zardari has given assurances that misuse of the blasphemy laws will not be tolerated by the government, but human rights activists in Pakistan continue to underline the urgent need to reform the laws. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us...or ministry, let us wait on our ministering... (Romans 12:6-7)
The word 'ministering' in this passage means serving. The gift of serving is an ability to perform practical tasks related to the work of the Lord. A person who serves helps others accomplish spiritual goals by freeing them from routine but necessary duties. <more...> Ignatius Press announces the American premiere of RESTLESS HEART: The Confessions of Augustine on Aug. 29 during the 2012 Catholic Marketing Network (CMN) Trade Show, which will be held at the Arlington, Texas, Convention Center.
