Issue: I know how I should live and yet I find myself falling into my old patterns time and time again. What can I do about this? Will I ever be able to break free from my old patterns. <more...>
Have you ever felt out of control? I have. The last three months of my life have had some amazing miracles and some of the most disappointing moments I have had in my life to this point. Three months ago, my husband and I left Calgary and moved to Kelowna. We believed we were to start a home church and thought we had a congregation, however it took us almost a month to get the services going and yet the only ones who come are my niece, my husband and myself. My husband was managing a recovery house which has had to close down. Our financial support for our ministry is completely gone. Right now we have nothing, yet I am still believing for that miracle. God is my provider, and He will provide and I trust in Him. <more...> Author and pastor Rick Warren has announced he won't be hosting a forum this year with President Obama and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, saying it would be "hypocritical" to host the event in light of the two campaigns' negative tone. The pastor of Saddleback Church in California, Warren hosted a Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency in 2008 with Obama and John McCain, shortly before McCain became the Republican nominee. But the tone of this year's campaign, Warren told the Orange County Register, is even worse than 2008. Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) has learned that four Christians arrested in Luang Namtha province in Laos in June this year have now been released.
In June, CSW reported that the four Christians had been arrested and had their personal belongings confiscated after being caught explaining the Bible to a Lao man in the home of a local Christian. This final week in our Ephesians series identifies the full armor of God and emphasizes prayer as a spiritual weapon.
Finally, be strong in the LORD and in His mighty power. (Ephesians 6:10) Never lose sight of the Source of our strength — that is, the Lord and His mighty power. “...My strength is made perfect in [your] weakness.” (II Corinthians 12:9) “I am the vine; you are the branches ... Apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) <more...> The Associated Press recently reported that 350 North American Jews landed at Ben-Gurion Airport to begin new lives in Israel. More than 4,000 immigrants have arrived in the Holy Land from the United States, Canada and Great Britain this year, at a time when Israel is believed to be preparing for a possible air strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, which could lead to a regional conflict. Gripping his black-and-white composition notebook and worn Bible, 11-year-old Ezekiel Stoddard commands the pulpit, preaching original sermons, laying hands on the sick and speaking in tongues at his family's Maryland church.
The sixth grader, who can barely see over the lectern, says God called him to be a preacher at the tender age of 7. "I had this dream; it was God speaking to me," he told The Washington Post. "'You're going to do My work, ministering the gospel and running people right over to [Me].'" Fox News anchorwoman Martha MacCallum stated yesterday that Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortions in the United States, does not perform abortions, but only refers women to abortion providers if they so wish. MacCallum made the claim, which she later repeated, in an interview with Fox legal expert and former judge Andrew Napolitano on a recent ruling by a U.S federal judge permitting the state of Texas to withhold funding from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers and referrers. "God is at work in this crisis, and we're trying to find where." -Aid worker among Syrian Refugees A grim summary: Civilian deaths in the nearly 18-month-old rebellion against the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad topped 21,000 in early August. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have fled their homes, seeking safety from government and militia attacks in shrinking sanctuaries within Syria or in neighboring countries. Army and rebel forces battle for control of Syria's major cities, as large swaths of the country fall under control of the rebels -- or of criminal gangs.
