The United Nations is being asked to take action against family-planning policies in China that harm women and children.
A formal complaint has been lodged with the UN body that deals with women's rights by Reggie Littlejohn of Women's Rights Without Frontiers.
The complaint lists many violent incidents related to enforcement of the one-child policy, as well as abortions performed on the basis of gender.

“We've seen women die in force sterilizations, forced abortions,” recalls Littlejohn. “There was a family that had a third child and got into a physical altercation with the family planning officials, and the officials actually ran over the child.”
The child was crushed under a vehicle driven by the officials, she says.
And the list goes on. Littlejohn is calling for it to end.
This marks the third complaint Women's Rights Without Frontiers has filed against China and so far there has been no response.
“China says that they don't respond to international pressure. They do respond to international pressure,” Littlejohn told OneNewsNow.
She stresses that the Chinese government is listening to the demands, and she urges the public to sign the petition against forced abortions in China.
Change does not come quickly with China, a country that doesn't like to be embarrassed internationally.
Women's Rights Without Frontiers believes that maintaining the pressure will bring about the change over time.
