Egyptian security forces have managed to return 14-year-old Abanoub Ashraf, who was abducted last Sunday, 31 March, in front of St. Paula’s Church in Shubra el-Kheima, Minya [Upper Egypt].
Forces arrested the gang responsible for the abduction and recovered Ashraf after following the cell phone of one of the kidnappers.
The gang was arrested in a security ambush in the Sharqiyya governorate, and has been transferred to the Shubra el-Kheima police station for investigations.
Karam el-Khawaja, the child’s uncle, told MCN that the family would receive Ashraf from their governorate’s security directorate.
Ashraf was kidnapped on Sunday in front of St. Paula’s Church after the liturgy. The gang indiscriminately fired into the air to scare the churchgoers and then grabbed Ashraf.
Khawaja noted the abductors demanded a two million Egyptian pound ransom, before increasing it to five million.
