Deep Fried Manna to Help Launch Kickstarter Campaign for Interactive Christian Books

What do Jeremy Lin, Craig Groeschel, Skye Jethani and Francis Chan all have in common? They are all part of kickstarting the Christian App revolution.

Deep Fried Manna, a Los Angeles-based mobile app developer today announced the launch of their kickstarter campaign to raise $150,000 to develop Rex and Rooty, a Christian interactive book for kids. Deep Fried Manna has enlisted a cast of Christian influencers to support them in their campaign, including NBA star Jeremy Lin, Pastor Craig Groeschel, authors Skye Jethani and Francis Chan and many more. One day into launch, the project has already attracted over $12,000 in funding.

Jeff Matsuda, co-founder and Emmy award winning Creative Director of The Batman cartoon remarked, "We as parents realized that when given a choice, our kids were increasingly choosing their iPads over traditional TV. Yet there were so few apps out there that taught them about God."

But the team quickly found their funding options limited. While their kids were on mobile devices, the traditional Christian market was still focused on what they knew best - books and DVDs. On the other hand, the tech investment community simply did not have much interest in the faith and family market.

That's when the team decided to turn to kickstarter. CEO Mike Su explained, "Kickstarter is the perfect way for us to reach other Christian parents directly. We don't have to wait on a gatekeeper; we can reach out directly to the audience that is hungry for this content. A project like this won't get done through traditional means, so this is really about making our voices heard, and letting the world know there is a market for this, and let creators know that we are hungry for this."

Dave Gibbons of NEWSONG in Irvine, CA, is a partner at Deep Fried Manna. "I was immediately excited about what they're doing. The need couldn't be any more obvious and urgent. We have an entire generation growing up on these new platforms, but we as content creators aren't meeting them there. The global nature of the AppStore also means there are opportunities to spread the Gospel around the world in ways that could have never been done before, and we as Christians need to be out on the forefront of that."
