Tarek el-Awadi, secretary of the legislative and legal commission of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party told MCN that the so-called customary reconciliation meeting held on Thursday in Khosos area to contain the crisis of attacks on Christians is a disaster by all means because it undermines the rule of law.
Awadi asserted the need to punish those who killed, robbed, looted or burned, according to the law, and not to end the issue with a reconciliation session.
“This meeting would be acceptable if held after punishing criminals, but this session encourages everyone committed these crimes to commit them again,” Awadi added.
“Such conferences have become dull, and everyone knows the results in advance. Everyone says that what is kept in the hearts will remain and these conferences are just media shows. It is of greater importance to return rights to the oppressed and punish the oppressors.”
