House Church Revival Meeting Raided, U.S. Church Leader Under House Arrest

A well-known U.S. church leader, Dennis Balcombe (photo), was being held by police under house arrest following a Saturday raid on a house church revival meeting and his current whereabouts are unknown, ChinaAid has learned.

Also in Henan province, seven house church leaders in Pingdingshan have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from three to 7-1/2 years in prison on cult charges.

In Nanyang, the raid by police, Domestic Security Protection agents and officials from the Religious Affairs Bureau occurred on Saturday morning, just hours after the start of what had been planned as a three-day revival meeting, with attendees from the city of Wenzhou and the provinces of Hubei and Henan, as well as house church believers from some other places.

Slate: 'Marriage Equality' Includes Polygamy

As a lawyer in the same-sex marriage litigation at the Supreme Court who has spent a couple years working through all the implications of declaring a constitutional right to gay marriage, it became clear that such a declaration would also mean there is a right to polygamy.

When I previously explained these reasons, gay marriage supporters said the country would never go there. Well, now the far-left magazine Slate has come out with a full-throated endorsement of polygamous marriage.

Coptic Teacher Investigated for Defaming Islam and Proselytizing

Luxor’s Educational Directorate investigated a Coptic Social Studies teacher in Sheikh Sultan School based on accusations charging her with insulting Islam and proselytizing her Muslim students.

Monsef Ayad, a teacher, said, “Luxor’s Educational Directorate received a memorandum signed by a number of parents from the chairman of the board of trustees of the Sheikh Sultan School of Hagez el-Toud. In response, investigators traveled to the school to question the Egyptian teacher, accusing her of insulting Islam and urging her students to convert to Christianity.”

Watertown: Church Planter Caught in Crossfire

A Southern Baptist church planting resident at a Boston-area church found himself, along with his wife, in the crossfire of a police shootout early Friday morning (April 19) with one of the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Stephen McAlpin, who is nearing the end of a one-year North American Mission Board church planting internship with Hope Fellowship Church in Cambridge, Mass., had just gone to bed around 12:40 a.m. when he and his wife heard something that sounded like fireworks.

By then officials had identified two brothers believed to be responsible for the double bombings that killed three and injured more than 170 people April 15, and Thursday night the suspects hijacked a car in Cambridge and drove to Watertown, where McAlpin lives, while being pursued by police.

California Bill Would Allow Boys in Girls' Restrooms

The cultural debate over "transgender rights" in public schools has moved to California, where a legislative committee passed a bill Wednesday (April 17) that would outlaw sex-segregated bathrooms and athletic teams.

Under the bill -- which passed the Assembly Education Committee by a vote of 5-2 -- a student will be "permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs, activities, and facilities, including athletic teams and competitions," consistent with "his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil's records."

Bob Gersztyn owned a fine collection of 300 rock ‘n’ roll albums in 1971, the year he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Among them were some choice 1960s vinyl from Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and the Mothers of Invention.

But all of a sudden, this was the devil’s music.

“I destroyed some of them with a hammer and took the rest to a used record store,” he recalled with a laugh. “I think I kept 10 classical music albums that I decided were not anti-Christian.”
