John Knox was born in the Scottish town of Haddington in East Lothian, some time in 1514. His father, William Knox, was a merchant or craftsman, but little is known about his mother. Knox's parents died in unknown circumstances when John and his brother were still young, and they were taken in by a wealthy family who enabled Knox to leave home at the age of 15 and go and study in St Andrews in Fife. <more...>
