Truman showed a stronger interest in civil rights than previous presidents. He was a proud defender of the Fair Employment Act that he had instigated during the war to prevent discrimination against African Americans, Jews and other minority groups. A supporter of the Wagner Act, he opposed the Taft-Hartley Bill which limited labor action, claiming it was bad for industry and workers alike. When Congress passed it he denounced it as a "slave-labor bill".

FaithVillage.com, the social network for faith experiences launched last year, is opening a new online bookstore this week. FaithVillage Books bookstore will serve the website's growing community of readers with a faith-friendly, nonprofit shopping experience that helps support its free services to site members and participating causes, churches and ministries. Opening with more than 200,000 Christian titles, the store plans to expand book and music categories in the near future. "While the retail book industry has been undergoing massive changes, we have increasingly heard from Christian readers, authors and publishers who want more alternatives to the existing channels for finding new authors and purchasing books online," said Brad Russell, FaithVillage senior editor. “In the wake of the “Arab Spring” across northern Africa, Islam has been on the rise throughout the continent, and with it, violent persecution against Christians,” said Michael Carl, a veteran journalist and bi-vocational pastor. Carl recalled, in an article in American news site WND today, how “Christians in Tanzania, for example, are on alert after an Assemblies of God pastor was killed while attempting to stop Muslim youth from killing two Christian meat cutters.” Wobbly wooden floors and plywood walls were the first backdrop for worship by migrant workers from the local fish factories.
