Edited by John C. Cavadini, the volume provides an introduction to Benedict's ecclesially grounded theology, articulated in his essays, monographs, and sermons, and also serves as a primer in the major concerns of recent and current Catholic theological discourse. Says Cavadini: "We are losing a great leader, certainly one of the most sophisticated theological minds to serve as Pope in modern history. His legacy is one of integration on so many fronts -- integration of faith and reason above all, but also of witness and dialogue, culture and community, Catholic Social Teaching and its place in the wider framework of Catholic theology, Eros and Agape -- he refused dichotomy and cultivated dialectic."
Pope Benedict XVI's announcement of his imminent resignation has, understandably, ushered in a flood of assessments of his papacy, both of his administration of the Papal office and of his theological contributions. Many observers have characterized Benedict XVI as remaining foremost a theologian; it is in that role that a multidisciplinary group of scholars treat the full scope of Benedict's theological work in "Explorations in the Theology of Benedict XVI."

For many youth workers, a big part of their job description seems to include “Think outside the box on a regular basis”… constantly coming up with new ideas and innovative programs that are bigger and better than last year, last week, and last night. And while there is certainly a place for risk-taking and improvement in each new season, sometimes what you really need is tried-and-true, solid stuff. Stuff that is actually totally inside the box!” After recent criticism, New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow has canceled a scheduled appearance at First Baptist Church in Dallas. Tebow announced the cancellation in a series of tweets Thursday (Feb. 21). "While I was looking forward to sharing a message of hope and Christ's unconditional love with the faithful members of the historic First Baptist Church of Dallas in April, due to new information that has been brought to my attention, I have decided to cancel my upcoming appearance," Tebow wrote. "I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope and Love to all those needing a brighter day. Thank you for all of your love and support. God Bless!" This Gospel of John Bible study presents a profound perspective of Jesus Christ and your relationship to Him. This challenging study format is suitable for individual daily study or weekly group reviews. This is the first of four chapters in this Gospel of John Bible study where Jesus teaches his disciples after the Last Supper. Jesus answers the questions of Thomas, Phillip, and Judas (not Iscariot). The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) has launched their latest initiative aimed at helping children grow in their faith and share their beliefs with their friends and family. The Ultimate Mission, a 12-session Bible study developed for ages 6-10, was announced this week at the annual Children's Pastors Conference in San Diego, Calif. The Ultimate Mission introduces students to characters Jacob and Jordan, missionary kids who take the children through three books (each book containing four lessons) on the topics of God's Great Gift, Walking with God, and Sharing God's Gift. Through the study, the students will get an understanding of sin and redemption from a biblical perspective, learn from the examples of people who walked with God, and ultimately become equipped to share the Gospel of Jesus with others. Actress Roma Downey and her TV executive husband, Mark Burnett, have teamed up to bring the greatest story ever told back to the small screen. The Apprentice and Survivor mastermind is the producer of the epic 10-hour The Bible, while Downey (Touched by an Angel) will play Jesus' mother Mary in the ambitious mini-series, which will debut on America's History Channel on March 3 and air weekly leading up to Easter Sunday, March 31. Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado will portray Jesus Christ. Burnett accepts he might not be the man people think of when it comes to epic religious TV projects, but he understands the importance of dramas like The Bible. "I am certain that if you took Survivor, The Voice, Shark Tank, The Apprentice and all the other shows I've done," he says, "over the next 25 years more people will see The Bible mini-series than all those other projects combined. "It is so important to tell these stories, and I believe we have done it well for a new generation." A Pakistan court last month surprised all involved when it dismissed charges of blasphemy against a Christian man accused of insulting Islam. The Jan. 28 ruling by a trial court in Punjab province surprised defendant Barkat Masih, his attorney and religious-rights advocates. It came two months after a different judge threw out similar charges against a teen-aged girl that drew worldwide criticism of Pakistan’s anti-blasphemy laws. The White Buffalo, a contemporary Christian art gallery, will open at 2528 South 7th Street in Abilene on March 1, 2013. The gallery is currently the only contemporary Christian art gallery in Texas. The White Buffalo was started by Brock Cravy, a Texas native who, after several years working in Los Angeles, has returned to his home state inspired to open a new gallery with contemporary pieces that glorify God. Fast-growing EchoLight Studios continues with its multi-million dollar commitment announced this year that supports the next generation of Christian filmmakers. The latest announcement pledges up to $1 million to produce and distribute a new work from the Best Film winner in this year's 168 Film Project. The action follows similar commitments -- $250K at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival (SAICFF) and a multi-million dollar production and distribution deal over five years with the Liberty University Cinematic Arts program. |
