Members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will share their testimonies after two home games this season as part of an Athletes in Action outreach. The Bombers will hold their annual Faith Night on Thursday, July 26 and Friday, August 3 at Canada Inns Stadium. Church groups will be offered a discounted admission price and two players from the team will share their testimonies after the game.
Lorne Korol, who works with Athletes in Action and is a chaplain for the Blue Bombers, says the team has been doing faith nights for the last number of years and they are always a positive experience.
"It's an annual event and it's been a great way to bring young church groups into a game at a discounted rate, a great way to highlight the [Athletes in Action] ministry and a great way to allow some of the players to use their platform of professional sport to honour and glorify God, and encourage our youth," Korol says.
The faith nights are also fundraisers for Athletes in Action's summer camps and international ministry.
In addition to working with Athletes in Action and the Bombers, Korol is a chaplain for the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Winnipeg Jets. He leads chapels and Bible studies, and develops one-on-one relationships with the players he works with.
"It's really an honour to walk alongside them," Korol says. "We encourage them all the time. There may be a lot of highs and lows, but the one thing they know they have for sure is victory in Jesus Christ."
