This story takes place about 2000 years ago. There was a man named Joseph. Joseph was a carpenter. He loved a lady very much and her name was Mary. Mary and Joseph were engaged to be married.
One day and angel came to Mary and said that she was going to be pregnant with a son and that her son would be the son of God since she was still a virgin. Mary was very surprised by this but answered the angel saying that she would do whatever God wanted her to do.

An angel also came to Joseph and told him that it was OK to marry Mary. The son she was going to have would be named Jesus. They were married right away.

When Mary was 9 months pregnant everyone had to register with the government so they could know how many people lived there. Joseph and Mary then had to travel to Bethlehem to register. They had to take a donkey because they did not have cars back then. It was a very long trip! They were so tired when they arrived in Bethlehem they went to find an inn for the night, but there was no room. Finally one of the innkeepers allowed them to stay in his stable. It was better than sleeping outside.

The animals in the stable seemed friendly enough. That night by surprise Mary had her baby, and sure enough it was a boy. They named him Jesus.

They had no cradle for him so they placed him in a manger which was a feeding box for the animals. The animals did not seem to mind.

When Jesus was born, a star appeared right over the stable. It was the brightest star in the sky. God wanted the world to know his son was born. Out in the fields nearby there were some shepherds watching over their sheep. All of a sudden an angel appeared and the shepherds were really scared.

The angel even told them that they would find the baby in a manger. So the shepherds went to Bethlehem to search for the baby the angel spoke of.

When they found him they praised the Lord for all of the things that had happened to them. They told everyone they met about Jesus and all the things that had happened and the people were all amazed.
In the East there were three wise men who were waiting for the promised Savior to be born. As they waited, they watched the sky for a sign that the Savior had been born. Finally one night while the wise men were watching the sky they saw a new star appear and it was much brighter than any other in the night sky. It was the sign they were waiting for. The wise men gathered together their things and some gifts for the child and set off on their journey following the star. They followed the star all the way to Bethlehem. Here they found baby Jesus in the stable and they gave their gifts to him.
Jesus was God’s gift to the world. It is through Jesus that we are forgiven for our wrongs. He took our punishment for us, and all we have to do is believe that he gave us this gift and love God and everyone else too. Yes, even that mean kid in your class! Just remember that along with all the presents and the trips to see Santa the real story of Christmas is God’s gift to us!
