Palestinian Rocket Aimed at Jerusalem for 1st Time
Palestinian terrorists fired a rocket aimed at Jerusalem on Friday, setting off air raid sirens throughout the city and opening a new front in three days of fierce fighting between Israel and Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli campaign has been limited to airstrikes so far. But military officials say they are considering expanding it to a ground campaign. |

Rallies for, Against Egypt President's New Powers
Supporters and opponents of Egypt's Islamist president staged rival rallies Friday after he assumed sweeping new powers, a clear show of the deepening polarization plaguing the country.
President Mohammed Morsi's decree put himself above the judiciary and also exempted the Islamist-dominated constituent assembly writing Egypt's new constitution from judicial review. Liberal and secular members earlier walked out of the body, charging it would impose strict Islamic practices. |

'Watershed' Religious Freedom Win in Calgary
A "watershed case" regarding freedom of expression on the subject of homosexuality was handed down in Canada this fall, giving hope to religious liberty advocates in the United States who say the ruling could impact future U.S. decisions.
"Matters of morality, including the perceived morality of certain types of sexual behavior, are topics for discussion in the public forum. Freedom of speech does not just protect polite speech," Alberta Appeals Court Justice Clifton O'Brien wrote in the ruling. |
