"God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control." (2 Timothy 1:7)
Fear does not come from God, since He did not give us a spirit of fear. So, where does fear come from? The logical answer is Satan.
God instead gives us a spirit of power, love and self-control. Today I want to focus on love. God gave us a spirit of love, which helps us love Him and others.
"Where God's love is, there is no fear; because God's perfect love drives out fear. It is punishment that makes a person fear, so love is not made perfect in a person who fears." (1 John 4:18)
We do not need to fear anything around us because God's love is always with us, and His love is perfect. Love can defeat fear!
Because Jesus was already punished for our sin we can live in the freedom of God's love.
Love is like light and fear is like darkness. If you have a room with no lights on, the darkness seems to fill every space even the corners.
Even with the littlest bit of light you can brighten up the whole room. It is through love that we can clearly see the world around us, without love all we see is darkness.
So if you are afraid, rest in God's love and that nasty fear will have to walk right out the door. Love wins every time!
The next time the darkness of fear takes over your heart; pray, meet with Jesus, read the Bible, speak the Word, tell others about Jesus and look for opportunities to help others.
This is the best way to defeat fear! Let God's love surround you each day this week.
