Nahum 2:2 - The Lord will restore the splendor of Jacob like the splendor of Israel, though destroyers have laid them waste and have ruined their vines.
Nahum means comfort. God used Nahum in a way that would enable him to fulfill the meaning of his name. Nahum's prediction of Ninevah's destruction was to bring comfort to Judah. This comfort was not a result of the bloodshed of Israel's enemies, it was a result of knowing that God was just, and was establishing true peace.
God is Good:
Nahum 1:7 - The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,
God's Promise to Judah:
Nahum 1:12-13 - This is what the Lord says: “Although they have allies and are numerous, they will be cut off and pass away. Although I have afflicted you, O Judah, I will afflict you no more. Now I will break their yoke from your neck and tear your shackles away.”
Nahum 1:15 - Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Celebrate your festivals, O Judah, and fulfill your vows. No more will the wicked invade you; they will be completely destroyed.
Nahum 2:2 - The Lord will restore the splendor of Jacob like the splendor of Israel, though destroyers have laid them waste and have ruined their vines.
Nahum directs us to Christ, who is our peace, who has established his kingdom of peace - peace with God and with each other.
