Ephesians 3:10 - His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,
The Church is often referred to as small congregations of people meeting in church buildings, schools, community centers and people's homes. The Church can also refer to everyone that is saved, this is more widely known as the universal church.
Paul reveals that God established the church to be a dramatic demonstration of God's marvelous wisdom and perfect plan of reconciliation, being expressed by the joining of two hostile and diverse groups into one community of believers. Paul shares with us a different perspective on church as the body of Christ, the bride of Christ and the temple of God. The Apostles and the prophets form the foundation of the church, and Christ is the chief cornerstone. The leaders of the church must build up the church into unity, maturity and love.
God's Plan in the Church:
Ephesians 3:10 - His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,
Christ's Body:
Ephesians 1:22-23 - And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Ephesians 3:6 - This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 4:4 - There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;
Ephesians 4:12 - to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
Ephesians 4:16 - From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:25 - Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Ephesians 5:23 - For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Ephesians 5:30 - For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Christ as Head:
Ephesians 1:22 - And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,
Ephesians 4:15 - Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Ephesians 5:23 - For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Temple of God:
Ephesians 2:21-22 - In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Christ as Cornerstone:
Ephesians 2:20 - built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
Bride of Christ:
Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
Ephesians 5:29 - After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church--
Leaders Given to the Church:
Ephesians 4:7-11 - But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.” (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,
Unity in the Church:
Ephesians 2:14-19 - For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,
Ephesians 4:3-4 - Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;
Ephesians 4:13 - until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Love in the Church:
Ephesians 4:2 - Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:15-16 - Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 5:2 - and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
We as the church need to ask ourselves: Do we express the unity that God expects of the church?
