Resurrection Lutheran Church celebrated its 10 year anniversary on Sunday, June 23 with a continuous, nationwide, Bible-reading event. RLC's goal was to have the entire Bible read in one day, by churches in its own community and across Canada."Our mission statement is 'Reclaiming lives for Christ through healing and growth ministries'," says Pastor Ana Beck. "The greater focus of this congregation is biblical study towards application in daily life."
When Resurrection Lutheran was founded a decade ago, it organized an 82-hour continuous reading of the Bible at a downtown park as a way of becoming visible in the community. The town sanctioned the event which was also supported by many churches whose members participated in reading.
This year, 14 churches in the area took part in reading the Bible in six-hour stints. At the end of the day, all of the participants gathered at Pembroke's waterfront chapel to read Revelation and to celebrate with music and food.
Churches in Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia also took part.
Beck says the event was meant to create a "symphony of Words" across the county.
