A ministry that has helped 10 million people in 58 countries become Christians during the past 10 years is coming to Canada and the United States next year. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association of Canada (BGEAC) celebrated the arrival of its "My Hope" ministry with launch events throughout Canada, including in Burnaby, B.C., Calgary, Alberta and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
My Hope works through local churches to train Christians to invite neighbors, co-workers and friends into their homes for a meal or dessert. While there, they watch a BGEA television broadcast or DVD presentation that features a message from Billy or Franklin Grahahm, faith testimonies and inspiring music. Then the trained host or hostess tells how he or she came to faith and invites everyone to make a similar commitment.
The My Hope ministry has been very successful in helping lead people to faith in the developing world. More than 2.7 million made commitments in India in 2006 and more than 340,000 in Brazil in 2008.
"There's always been a feeling that perhaps it [would work] better in developing countries than well-off countries like Canada and the United States," says Frank King, communications manager for BGEAC. "Our minds and hearts began to change about that after we conducted My Hope in Portugal and Spain last year and were very pleased with the results. After that, we thought it could be brought to North America."
The BGEAC will meet with pastors in every Canadian province between May and December 2012 to share the vision of this ministry. The My Hope telecast itself happens in November 2013 to coincide with Billy Graham's 95th birthday.
