Reginald (Reggie) Howard White was born on December 19, 1961, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At age 12, he proclaimed to his mother that he wanted to be both a football player and a minister. By age 17, he became an ordained Baptist minister. White attended Howard High School in Chattanooga where he played football and basketball, earning All-America honors in football and all-state honors in basketball.
After a 15 season career in the NFL, White became second all-time with 198 recorded sacks and was voted to the NFL All-time Team in 2000. He was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Teams of the 1980s and 1990s, the 75th Anniversary Team, and was voted first-team All-Pro 10 times in his 15 years in the NFL. Reggie White retired from football in 1999 having earned his moniker the "Minister of Defense".
