The president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission reacted to A&E's Wednesday (Dec. 18) announcement that it had suspended Robertson indefinitely for comments he made in an interview with GQ magazine. The network's statement seemed to indicate the action was taken because of his description of homosexual behavior as sinful.
The A&E network's suspension of "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson for comments regarding homosexuality constitutes a form of close-minded muzzling that is unhelpful in a pluralistic society, lead Southern Baptist ethicist Russell D. Moore said.

Revelation 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
The Great Wall of China is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It stretches over 4,000 miles (6,400 KM) and was built to protect China from the barbaric hordes to the north. The designers of the wall made it so high that it could not be scaled, so thick that it could not be penetrated, and so long that no one could go around it. Yet, during the first hundred years of the wall's existence China was successfully invaded three times, without the wall having been climbed or breached. So how, you ask, did the invaders raid China? Well, the problem wasn't the wall – it was the gatekeepers! In each of these invasions the barbarians simply bribed the gatekeepers who opened the gates, so the enemies just walked right through. The protection of the Great Wall of China was only as secure as its gatekeepers. What a lesson, since, don't we all also have "gates to keep"...our eyes, and our ears, and our mouth? No matter how strong we may feel, we can never forget that these points of entry will be seen by our enemies and there will be attempts to bribe or seduce us so they can break through. We must not allow the "barbaric hordes" to invade our lives by failing to keep careful watch at these entry points –our integrity and our authority depend on the security of our gates! Attendees of Seoul USA's Underground University recently performed a unique North Korean-style dramatization of the Nativity story. "These students developed and acted in the play which was performed during Underground University graduation ceremonies," explained Seoul USA's Eric Foley. "It was fascinating to witness their unique interpretation of the traditional Bible account of the birth of Christ." Pastor Rick Warren spoke a line to CNN's Piers Morgan that has resonated with people who, like him, have tried repeatedly to explain why they won't change their stance to support same-sex marriage. "I fear the disapproval of God more than I fear your disapproval or the disapproval of society," Warren, of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., told the host of "Piers Morgan Live." Warren appeared on the show amid a media blitz for his new book "The Daniel Plan" about getting healthy for the glory of God, but his stand for biblical marriage continues to draw attention. Pro-life missionaries Bud and Tara Shaver, of Project Defending Life in Albuquerque, New Mexico, have been named as recipients of the 2013 Pro-life Person of the Year Malachi Award in recognition of their outstanding work in bringing the matter of late-term abortions into the national spotlight. After an internship with Operation Rescue, the Shavers moved to Albuquerque in 2010 to expose late-term abortions at Southwestern Women's Options, one of the few abortion clinics in the nation that openly conduct abortions throughout the full nine months of pregnancy. Christmas is the most notable day on the calendar where the general American public is reminded of the life of Jesus Christ. That is why some want to do away with it. Someone sent me an article from USA Today that has this headline: "Not All Christians Believe There Is a 'War on Christmas.'" The article quotes Christian leaders and authors saying they disagree with those of us who believe there is a war on Christmas. I could give a litany of examples of exactly how the war on Christmas has manifested itself the last decade or so. From nativity scenes no longer being allowed on the courthouse square to schools changing Christmas break to "winter" break, from Christmas parades being changed to "winter" parades to children being told they can no longer sing carols during their "winter" program, etc. There is an intentional effort by some secularists to purge the word Christmas from our culture. Whether it will be successful or not remains to be seen. But it's discouraging to see some fellow Christians say, "Who cares?" Duck Dynasty is coming to the big screen next year. Two stars of the popular A&E television series Duck Dynasty will make their big screen debut in the spring of 2014. Willie Robertson and his wife, Korie, are featured in the new movie God's Not Dead. God's Not Dead is a new Christian movie about faith and the lengths one young man will go to defend his belief in God. his morning TIME magazine named Pope Francis its person of the year, hailing the head of the Catholic Church as a new voice of global conscience since taking office in March. He is the first non-European pope in nearly 1,300 years, the first Latin American head of the Church and a leading voice for the dispossessed. TIME says he took on a Church beset by scandal and signs of deep internal dysfunction, but there are signs that his popularity is revitalizing it. TIME managing editor Nancy Gibbs said they chose Francis "for pulling the papacy out of the palace and into the streets, for committing the world's largest church to confronting its deepest needs and for balancing judgment with mercy." Canada's Armed Forces recently named Brigadier-General John Fletcher as its new Chaplain General. During his three-year term, which started September 4, 2013, Fletcher will oversee 220 full-time chaplains and 130 reserve chaplains. From a young age Fletcher aspired to be involved in ministry. As a child he says he often "played church," setting up pews and preaching in his back yard. After high school he rediscovered his interest in ministry, while attending Royal Military College (RMC). Shining Star is ramping-up its sixth Christian vocal competition for early 2014. The competition is open to budding Christian solo artists who have not recorded an album that is currently for sale. All contestants perform publicly, where they are judged by well known artists including Ali Matthews, Dan Macaulay, Marcel Preston and Joel Auge. "The challenges [contestants] face can be quite wide depending on their past experience of performing live in front of an audience," says event producer Eric Spath. "We see the experience as a growing and maturing period for each contestant with many coming back from previous years stronger each time." |
