Some have called the uprising that took place in June a coup. It was not that at all, but rather a demand to get rid of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood has been portrayed by the media as a group of peaceful protesters. The truth is that the Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist party connected to al-Qaida and jihad groups. During the Muslim Brotherhood presidential period, Egypt's resources were directed to Gaza to serve people there while the Egyptians suffered.
In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has promised retaliation against the actions of the Egyptian government and vows there will be much bloodshed. The Muslim Brotherhood has burned 70 churches in the last week. In addition, more than 1,000 people have died, and the families of XploreNations Bible College students were tortured.

As reports come in of more than 40 Churches burning, hundreds of Christian homes torched and Christians being shot in the streets of Egypt, it is unconscionable for Western leaders to offer words of support for the attackers and not act to protect the innocent. We need to demand that President Barak Obama, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor Angela Merkel and other state leaders do everything in their power to protect Christians in Egypt and refrain from actions and words supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. Their is great concern that continued Western support for the Muslim Brotherhood is directly responsible for the violent tactics they are now using against Coptic Christians and transitional authorities. The months following Mubarak's ouster prove that the Western cliché claiming the Muslim Brotherhood has renounced violence is unequivocally false. The transitional government moved to break up several pro-Morsi sit-ins on August 14th. Although depicted as peaceful political demonstrations by Western media, these protestors have been amassing weapons to perpetrate attacks against anti-Morsi individuals. Documentation also proves these protestors have kidnapped, tortured, and killed Egyptians merely for their political beliefs and religious affiliations. Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) is deeply concerned by continuing attacks against Egyptian Christians, which have increased in frequency since the removal of the Morsi regime and have prompted Pope Tawadros II to cancel his weekly public sermons. Violence and hate speech targeting religious minorities was already on the increase under the former president's rule. Since his removal from power, attacks on the Coptic community in particular have increased sharply, primarily but not exclusively in Upper Egypt, following allegations from several Islamist sources that Christians played a pivotal role in the removal of Morsi’s regime. H.H. Pope Tawadros II issued a decision to provide services in Switzerland through three parishes. H.G. Bishop Yoanas said the decision to include the Italian sector under Bishop Kyrillos’ care was published in Al-Keraza magazine, the German sector to Bishop Gabriel’s, and the French sector to Bishop Luca’s. The pope also decided to specify his European deputy’s duties, as well as giving him the right to assign, transfer, and nominate priests to parishes or churches with no bishops, in addition to the right to establish new churches and investigate problems with churches that do not have bishops present. Coptic locals of Delga village, Deir Mawas [Upper Egypt], reside in a state of panic after dismissed President Morsi’s supporters attacked them. The perpetrators had attacked Copts’ homes and shops, setting fire to five Coptic houses while chanting hostile slogans against them, and burnt and looted St. George Church’s service building. Since the attacks, many of the village’s Copts have migrated for fear of continued assault. Delga has a population of 120,000, of which Copts make up roughly 17 percent. As a small minority, those who remain in the village now refuse to discuss the incident, due to the surveillance imposed on them by Muslim locals, and even those who would speak to our correspondent refused to identify or name any of the perpetrators. The new Egyptian cabinet after the revolution of June 30, which brought down the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood, was sworn in on Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Hazem el-Beblawi, before interim President Adli Mansour. The new ministerial formation included three Copts; Mounir Fakhri Abdel Nour for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Ramzi George for Scientific Research, and Dr. Laila Rashid Iskandar for Environment. Iskandar is one of three women in the new government, which includes 33 ministerial portfolios. His Grace Bishop Angaelos, General Bishop of The Coptic Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom, has announced three days of prayer “for peace, reconciliation and an end to needless violence and loss of life in Egypt,” commencing today and coinciding with the end of the Coptic Orthodox Fast of the Apostles and the beginning of the month of Ramadan. In a media release announcing the prayer days, the Bishop said that “after witnessing millions of Egyptians across the whole nation and from all walks of life standing together to peacefully express their desire for a new Egypt, it is unfortunate that this unified effort is being undermined by needless violence and bloodshed.“ The Egyptian Armed Forces issued a statement on Thursday, showing appreciation to the people of Egypt and sending a message to the Islamic youth, confirming their patriotism and dedication. The statement stressed that actions taken yesterday, from removing President Mohamed Morsi to suspending the constitution, came in line with national forces, as well as political and religious figures. It also confirmed that it would not allow attacks on places of worship nor an attack on anyone belonging to the Islamic current. |
