The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is on the move again as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has confirmed that it will hold hearings on the treaty starting today. The treaty was defeated on the Senate floor last year after it failed to receive the required two-thirds vote, largely because of strong opposition from parental rights and disability rights advocates. President Obama signed the treaty in July 2009, but opponents were quick to point out the dangers this treaty presented to disabled persons in the United States. "We all want to show our love and care for people with disabilities," said Michael Farris, founder and chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). "This treaty, however, is not the way to do it. This treaty will give United Nations and government agents, not parents, the authority to decide all educational and treatment issues for disabled children. All of the rights that parents have under traditional American law, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act will be undermined by this treaty." When 10-year-old Erin Shead received a school assignment to write about her idol, it was an easy decision: She chose to write about God. However, when young Erin asked her teacher if she could write about God, she was told no. That night, after speaking with her mother, Erin decided to move forward with her plans. Fearful the teacher might not accept it, she completed a second assignment as well. The next day, Erin tried to hand in her assignment she had written about God, but the teacher rejected it, accepting her other project (about Michael Jackson) instead. Later, during a class discussion, the teacher told Erin to take the God assignment home because leaving it on school property might violate the First Amendment. So much for the left’s “consenting adults” rhetoric on sex. Forever the consummate conservationists, our self-described “progressive” friends at the American Civil Liberties Union, MSNBC and elsewhere have been ramping up efforts to downsize from “consenting adults” to merely “consenting”—a far less cumbersome qualifier in the noble struggle for unrestrained sexual license. Tolerating “intergenerational romance” for “minor-attracted” adults is all the rage these days. Ever hear of Kaitlyn Hunt? Over the past year or so, this poor, misunderstood lesbian woman’s “anti-gay persecution” has become a cause célèbre among gay rights activists and other left-wing purveyors of perversion.

'Connie's Insight', the well known LHF advice column and apologetics section, re-launched this morning with an article on faith. Lately, I have been mesmerized by children, their faith in God is so simple and so pure. I would love to have faith that is so simple; however with age we become cynical and I find that we trust less. I have been thinking of my childhood, and the interesting thing is that God remains the same but it is our perception that changes. When sinners cry foul, you know you’ve crossed the line. Miley Cyrus took raunchy to a whole new level at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday—and the talk of her stripping down to flesh-colored rubber underwear, ultra-obscene twerking and other erotic moves on stage with Robin Thicke isn’t dying down. Miley’s perverted performance made Beyonce’s controversial Super Bowl dance look tame and Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction appear rather innocent. Billy Ray Cyrus, the country music star and father of the misguided youth, was probably sick to his stomach watching his baby girl simulate masturbation in front of the masses. Billy Ray was scheduled to do an interview with Piers Morgan to discuss the incident but bailed out, probably still speechless and sipping on Pepto-Bismol. Morality in Media praises Scandinavian hotel chain The Nordic Choice, which announced the end of pornography in their 171 locations to stem child sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. Petter Stordalen, owner of The Nordic Choice hotel chain, decided to act after working with Unicef’s campaign to help child victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation. Stordalen said, “The porn industry contributes to trafficking, so I see it as a natural part of having a social responsibility to send out a clear signal that Nordic Hotels doesn’t support or condone this.” Since the early 1900s, comic books and graphic novels have engrossed young and old. The intriguing stories with colorful and imaginative artwork are no longer considered a children’s activity. The fun clean comics from the early years turned toward darker territory. While there are some good recent comics, many of them tend to have gritty, dark and salacious content and artwork. Even comic book series like Batman and Superman show scantily clad women and over-the-top stylized violence that adds nothing to the actual story. For this reason, many Christians choose to ignore comic books altogether. Thankfully, this is no longer necessary, because of a company called Kingstone Comics. With intriguing stories from the Bible and engaging artwork, Kingstone Comics is all about equipping the next generation with a Biblical worldview. A family expert believes the recent murder of a young Australian man in Oklahoma is a wakeup call for the entire country. Three teenagers in Duncan, 80 miles southeast of Oklahoma City, are accused of gunning down 22-year-old Christopher Lane last week while he was jogging, reportedly stating afterwards they did it just for “the fun of it” and because they were “bored and didn’t have anything to do.” Prosecutors are calling the murder of the East Central University baseball player a “thrill killing.” Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America told reporters it's a statement about the moral decline and breakdown of the family in America. “We don't have good role models for boys today and we have far too many young men who do not have the kind of stable home life that enables them to have a right perspective on life,” she offers. “They don't have a father image. They don't have a male role model in their lives.” “You’re spinning out of control again / Your life feels like a sinking ship / You’re wondering how it came to this." The first few lines of Natalie Grant’s new single, “Hurricane,” aren’t just another set of lyrics; they tell the personal story of an inner battle Grant experienced for more than a year. “The hurricane started with the birth of my third child,” Grant told the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Already a mother of twin girls, Grant had a “surprise” pregnancy after being told she couldn’t have any more children. She loved her new baby daughter, Sadie, but found herself facing postpartum depression that pulled her into a dark and difficult season. |
