The head of Lebanon's Syriac League, Habib Avram, said the world is ignoring the suffering of Christians in the Middle East while it goes through a phase of restructuring. Avram said Christians have not found any support in other powers and sects, and must be wise and remain rooted to their homeland like trees. During a dinner party held on the occasion of the Babylonian New Year, he noted, “People, ethnic groups, sects and civilizations that enjoy historical depth in the East must not disappear. It is a crime against humanity when such civilizations are marginalized or attacked.” "There are the same problems in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Palestine. The Christian presence deserves equal citizenship regarding dignity, freedoms, and rights,” he continued. Avram noted it is time for the Lebanese regime to recognize the rights of Christians, and that history will not forgive those who work to prevent them from realizing their rights. Iraqi Christian parliamentarian Khales Joshua criticized the practice of purchasing Christian lands in Kurdistan at exorbitant prices, an area which enjoys the greatest Christian majority in Iraq. He said such practices aim to alter the demographic distribution in the region. In a press statement today, Joshua added, "The problem lies in interpreting misinterpreting constitutional articles. This problem is public as each party interprets these articles according to their own interest.” In Pakistan, tens of thousands turned out to show their anger over the film. Pakistan's government declared today a holiday so that people could rally against the video. Trinity Broadcasting Network, America's favorite faith-and-family channel, is highlighting the award-winning video documentary The Cross: The Arthur Blessitt Story, produced and directed by TBN Vice President of Administration Matt Crouch, as this month's stewardship and love gift for TBN viewers and partners.
On Christmas Day 1969, Arthur Blessitt, a simple street evangelist sharing the gospel on tough and gritty Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California, began a 3,000-mile hike from the West Coast to Washington, D.C, carrying a 12-foot, 45-pound rugged wooden cross on his back. His only focus was to share with all he met what that cross symbolized: the forgiveness, hope, and healing all can find through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. While the media spotlight has shined brightly on Pastor Youcef Nadharkhani in Iran, another man of God has been sitting in prison for more than a year in Iraq.
Pastor Jamal Shabaq was falsely accused, arrested, never formally charged, and has yet to have a trial—or even find out when one might get underway, according to Jason Law, a spokesperson for World Compassion Terry Law Ministries. <more...> |
